Audicus strives to provide top-tier hearing aids and services to our customers.
Let’s see who’s working behind the scenes to make that happen.
What is your role at Audicus, and how’d your career path bring you here?
Alex Crowell is a Sales Manager with Audicus, and had an eclectic start to his sales career. Alex says he “got into sales because of acting. I was trying to be an actor in LA, and I was tired of being poor and needed health insurance.”
He kick-started his career in inside sales, specifically starting with structured settlement sales. After learning the industry and strengthening his sales skills, he later moved to SaaS sales, moved to New York to follow his wife, and eventually found his way to Audicus. He’s been with Audicus for almost four years and enjoys his time with the company.
What do you do in your role?
Alex is a dedicated member of the Audicus team, currently managing both a new business team and the OLEC team. He emphasizes the importance of collaboration and says “I am working with a team of the best account executives and sales managers I’ve ever worked with” at an organization.
In his role, Alex nurtures older leads and supports the existing customer team, ensuring that everyone works together towards achieving revenue goals. He actively strategizes on the most effective methods to engage leads and spark their interest in Audicus offerings.
Starting his journey as an Account Executive with Audicus, Alex quickly demonstrated his leadership potential, serving a brief period as a team lead before being promoted to Sales Manager.
Any advice for someone wanting to pursue a career in Sales?
A piece of advice Alex wishes he knew was “you can work in sales anywhere, but it’s about finding the people you enjoy working with. They don’t tell you that in college.”
Alex emphasizes the importance of recognizing talent on your team and acknowledging, “Wow, that person is really good – I’m going to work with them.” Building strong relationships is a cornerstone of his approach, and learning from others around you. Alex says, “I love Audicus for the relationships we cultivate here. Listen to what others do, build connections, and learn what you can improve on.”
He encourages other sales professionals to seek out team members they admire and want to work with, as this helps define their sales careers. Alex believes that the community you build around yourself is essential for success in the industry.
What do you find most rewarding about working in your role & Sales?
When asked about what he finds most rewarding in his role and in Sales, Alex says “I’ve learned an incredible amount while being at Audicus, and continue to learn every day.” He appreciates his team members, constantly learning from them and particularly notes, “I learn a lot from Monica, Tyler and an immense amount from Christian.”
Alex also emphasizes the positive culture that he and Monica have cultivated within the team. He describes it as “competitive but not cutthroat,” and they’ve created an environment that fosters collaboration and support among the team. He finds it rewarding and fun to work alongside his coworkers in a setting that not only promotes a healthy work culture, but also has a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
Favorite memory with Audicus?
Alex joined the Audicus team during the height of the covid pandemic, initially working remotely before transitioning to an in-office schedule of two days a week. For a full year, he came into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays to collaborate with team members in person.
One of Alex’s favorite memories from his time at Audicus was a period of time in January 2022 at the start of the new year when the company brought a bunch of the remote team to the office to collaborate We flew them out and got them hotels in the city, and then we took everyone out to dinner and drinks in the city), marking the end of a significant chapter. He remembers the team “invited a bunch of our remote workers to join us, and it was incredible to finally see everyone in person for the first time after bringing in enough revenue to make it happen.”
This in-person celebration allowed the team to engage in meaningful one-on-one’s, collaborate on sales efforts, and enjoy each other’s company outside of work. Alex appreciates the opportunity to work with colleagues across the country but finds great value in the face-to-face interactions that foster teamwork and creativity. Reflecting on this special event, he mentions “it was wonderful to have everyone come in and get face time, have fun during work, and brainstorm together.” This event took place in January of 2022.
What’s your favorite book/movie?
Alex mentions that his preferences often change. However, he has two favorite books that he will always recommend to those looking for their next read.
He has a love for Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, a lesser-known book than her more famous story, The Handmaid’s Tale. He also enjoys Misery by Stephen King, saying it’s one of his favorites.
In the fantasy realm, Alex very much enjoys Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series, specifically the Way of Kings, saying it’s some of the best fantasy out there.
Outside of work, what are your favorite things to do?
Outside of work, Alex has several hobbies that keep him busy. He enjoys playing all kinds of video games and mentions this is how he winds down from the day. He also says “nothing is more fun than having a glass of wine, a new video game, and having nothing to do.”
Alex also enjoys hiking, mentioning his aunt and uncle hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, a six-month journey, and he plans to do that in the future as well.
In addition to hiking and gaming, Alex is an avid runner. He focuses on speed and enjoys running in 5Ks, aiming to complete them as quickly as possible, typically on a track rather than a longer course.
Fun fact about you?
Alex says he has one joint in his big toes, so they only bend in one solid piece. Imagine a splint on your finger, only able to bend at one joint – that’s his big toes.
